Margaret Shaw – Testimonial

"I will be eternally grateful to Mr Pal for his kindness and brilliant skills."

In 2023, at age 77 years, I was diagnosed with severe spinal canal stenosis. Over time I met with several different consultant surgeons, the consensus being that my then age of 79 years, was a disadvantage and an operation could possibly result in my being consigned to a wheelchair for the rest of my life. I therefore delayed taking action for some time, weighing up the risks. (No medical person had pointed out that, whilst I was delaying, the stenosis could be gradually worsening).

Eventually, on 3 rd October 2025, I was fortunate in securing an appointment with Mr Deb Pal, a neurosurgeon working in Leeds. I found Mr Pal to be a very pleasant and approachable gentleman who, on reviewing my recent MRI scan, confirmed that he could successfully operate - my age being no problem. The operation was carried out on 25th October and I was surprised that, on the following day, I was able to walk around the hospital corridors and up a flight of carpeted steps without any discomfort. Mr Pal did point out that, prior to the operation, the stenosis had advanced from a "severe" to a "critical" stage, including a prolapsed disc, all of which he had now addressed. Two days later I was back home, with no ensuing problems. I will be eternally grateful to Mr Pal for his kindness and brilliant skills.
